Kritter Kommunity Pops Up in Wissahickon Valley Park
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Kritter Kommunity, LLC, online sellers of innovative products for pets and their owners, is thrilled to announce its upcoming popup store on Black Friday weekend, November 23-25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store will be hosted by The Cedars House, at the intersection of Forbidden Drive and Northwestern Avenue in Wissahickon Valley Park.
Customers will shop from Kritter Kommunity’s entire range of products, including its flagship Kritter Kondo outdoor-enclosure system, handy catios, and a wide array of stylish, pet-friendly home furnishings. Company president Lisa Illman is even bringing tasty pet-shaped cookies.
“We owe a lot to Philadelphia,” says Illman. “Ten years ago, my neighbors in Center City helped me see that an idea I’d cobbled together for my own pets might be interesting to other people, too. Their encouragement helped me launch Kritter Kommunity in the first place. After running an online store for so many years, I can’t wait to show Philadelphia how far we’ve come.”
The event is a homecoming of sorts for a company that never left the city. Back in 2008, Illman was working long hours as a marketing executive, and faced a difficult choice when she had a bit of downtime: spend time at home with her two cats, or enjoy the fresh air outdoors. One day, she decided that she and her pets deserved both, and built a portable mesh-walled enclosure that let her bring her cats safely and happily outside.
That first model was smaller than the ones Illman sells today, but it did the trick. Neighbors started asking where she’d bought hers, and before long Illman had a business idea on her hands.
She didn’t stop there. After developing the Kritter Kondo into a fully expandable system for cats and small dogs, Illman turned her attention to home furnishings. Kritter Kommunity now sells beautifully designed cat nests and elegant pet rugs, and continues to expand its product line.
“We think pets and their owners should have it both ways,” explains Illman. “Owners shouldn’t need to split their time and attention when most cats and dogs would rather spend a little time outdoors anyway. Your pets should be comfortable and happy without their things upsetting your home’s décor. Our neighbors will love what we have to offer. And for a company that helps people enjoy the indoors and outdoors, The Cedars House café is the perfect place to host a popup.”
Indeed, visitors might want to make a day of it. Nestled into a corner of beautiful Wissahickon Valley Park, The Cedars House was built in the 19th century as the office of the sprawling Andorra Nurseries. After a painstaking restoration, the building has recently found new life as a café, wellness center, and event venue. Its café serves a delicious seasonal menu with an emphasis on healthy organic dishes, while its wellness center provides licensed massage, acupuncture, and reiki services that revitalize the body and spirit.
